Can you get a sore throat from being around someone else who as a sore throat?

I say this from experience that yes you can get a sore throat from being around someone else with a sore throat.

It's happened to me. After I was around my mom one day and she had a sore throat I got back home and I started to get a sore throat.

So yes sore throats are contagious.
