My uncle who is 65 was diagnosed with Mesothelioma yesterday.

They're not telling me much. I guess as a way to shelter me. I don't know why though as I'm 18. But anyway I was wondering what the lifespan of someone who has mesothelioma and is there any treatments?

I'm asking because I love him so much.

Sorry to hear of him having Mesothelioma. It's a terrible disease.

The average life expectancy for a person with mesothelioma  ranges from 12 to 21 months, depending on a variety of factors, such as the stage in which the person was first diagnosed with the cancer. About 40 percent of mesothelioma patients survive One Year, and 20 percent live more than two years.

There are five primary types of treatment for mesothelioma:

  • SurgeryDepending on the location and stage of the cancer, and the health of the patient, tumors may be able to be removed through surgery.

  • ChemotherapyWith chemotherapy, cancer cells are prevented from growing and multiplying throughout the body.

  • RadiationOne of the oldest mesothelioma treatments, radiation techniques can target and shrink tumors to make other treatments more effective.

  • Experimental TreatmentClinical trials that test newer therapies like immunotherapy and phototherapy can prove effective if other options are exhausted.

  • Palliative TreatmentAdditional techniques and therapies can treat the symptoms of mesothelioma to help ease patient pain and suffering.
