I'd say flying in a commercial airplane is much safer than driving on the interstate with inexperienced drivers.
A commercial airline pilot has went through extensive training to become an airline pilot and is highly skilled.
Although there are some airplane crashes they are rare and you can crash and die in a car as well.
And of course the chances of getting the plain high jacked but that too is also rare.
I've flown many times and at first I was scared but after the first flight my fear was gone.
