Can a wet basement make you sick?

My basement in my house always seems to get wet and damp. I wish I could have a finished basement but with the water down there I can't seem to have a finished basement.

I'm worried that somehow me or my family might get sick from going down into our wet basement?

Can wet basements cause you any harm and make you sick?

A wet basement can make you sick if the wet basement is causing mold to grow down there.

You should inspect your wet basement for mold growth and get it removed if there's any mold growing down there.

Just the wet basement itself shouldn't make you sick but the mold and other bacteria is what would actually make you or someone else sick.
