Can metal roofing be installed over existing shingles?

I need to get a roof replacement soon and I want to put metal roofing on my house?

Can the metal roofing be installed directly over the existing roofing shingles?

If the roofing shingles aren't too deteriorated then you should be able to apply the tin roofing over the shingles.

But if the shingles are too far gone or crumpled up then you'll need to remove the old shingles before applying the new tin roofing.
