Why do the oven doors on electric stoves lock themselves when baking something?

What's the point of the oven door locking while the oven is on?

Do the ovens really lock the door when just baking? I know they do lock but I thought it was only when it was self cleaning the oven?

When I last used an electric oven I don't remember it ever locking while baking because I checked on my food once in awhile and the door always opened.

But it did lock when I turned on the self cleaning part of the oven.

Maybe my lock wasn't working when baking? I don't know.

I do know that the reason for it locking while self cleaning is because it reaches a high temperature and the oven locks to prevent someone from getting burned from the high temperatures.
