What happens if I don't respond to a Jury Duty Summons?

I got a jury duty summons in the mail this morning and I really don't want to go to jury duty. But I also don't want to go to jail for not responding.

What would happen if I simply tore up the jury duty summons and not respond or show up for jury duty?

Do people really go to jail for not going to jury duty?

Nothing will happen to you if you don't respond to jury duty summons. I've never responded to jury duty summons before for over 15 years and nothing has happened to me.

Never had warrant for my arrest or been to jail for not going to jury duty.

Just rip up the jury duty summons and forget about it.
