How long does it take for a check to clear your bank?

I want to go buy some groceries with a check today but I don't get paid until Monday, if I write a check today being Saturday and the banks are closed on Sunday will I be alright writing this check for the groceries?

I'm getting low on groceries otherwise I wouldn't write it today and wait until Monday.

Can I write a check early if the money will be in the bank in a few days?

A check usually takes around 3 days to clear your bank and remove funds from your bank account.

But the stores might be using a check machine where the run the check through the machine and it pulls the money right out.

I know Walmart runs the check through right away and the money has to be in the checking account right then otherwise the check won't go through.

If you go to a small grocery store then most likely they won't run the check through right away.
