Why do my modem lights blink when I'm not using the internet?

I just noticed tonight that while I was not using the internet my modem light was blinking like there was some internet traffic going through it?

If you use wifi check to make sure that no one is logged into your wifi account and using your internet. I found that to be the case one time when I notice my internet light blinking.

I changed the password and so far they haven't gotten back in.
