If you run from the police can they shoot you?

I'm watching an episode of Gomer Pyle USMC and the cops pulled a gun on 2 guys running from them.

Can a cop actually shoot you in real life if you're running away from them?

If you don't pose a danger to the public as in you're not someone who murdered someone and may murder again then no they won't or can't shoot you just for running.
