I know states have a cold weather rule where you can't be shut off during the cold winter months for not being able to pay your electric bill. But what about summer time?
If you become past due on your electric bill during summer months can the electric company disconnect power?

It depends on the state you reside in. Some States such as MO have a hot weather rule where law prohibits shut off of electricity when the temperature is 95F or above.

But if the temp drops below that for even a day then they can shut you off.

If you're behind on your electric bill contact your electric company and tell them of your tough time in paying the bill.

Most will be willing to work with you to keep your electric from getting shut off. It cost the electric company money to shut you off and then to reconnect you so most are willing to keep your electric on.

You just have to contact them and work out payment arrangements.
