I have a male cat who is around 7 years old. He's been outside today and just a few minutes ago he was sitting in my lap outside and I noticed a dead animal smell on him?

I also notice he's starting to get skinnier? He's been fed well so I know he's not malnourished. I make sure he has plenty of food and water and lots of love.

Is this dead animal smell on my cat something I should be worried about? I don't have the money right now to take him to a vet or I would have him at a vet in a second.

He could possible have rolled around or been around a dead animal and got that smell on him.

Try giving him a bath if he'll allow it. If the smell persists then it could be an Abcess from a bite would and fluid is draining.

Cat's fight other cats outside so he could be injured.

The skinnier part has me more worried though. Something serious could be going on. Possible he could have cancer and losing weight due to it or some other disease.

Only a vet can say for sure.

Not sure what else to say about the dead animal smell from what was already said.

But the weight loss in your cat could be due to GI tract problems.

Your cat could have inflammatory bowel disease, food allergies, other infections or intestinal parasites.

These parasites are also known as worms.

If your cat is still losing weight then you might want to see a vet if it becomes possible.

Hope your cat get's better.
