In our house my parents still have the old crt television that they bought when I was born.

I'm 18 now. So it's 18 years old. I figured the television would die by now?

I offered to buy them a new slim flat panel LCD television but they don't want to get rid of the old television until it goes completely out.

They said they paid $300.00 for the tv brand new 18 years ago.

I say if we watched the tv for 18 years we got there money's worth out of it.

How much longer should this CRT TV last?

You're not gonna like my answer.

A CRT television can last up to 40 years depending on how much use it sees.

I found a 40 year old television in the dumpster and I brought it home, plugged it in and it worked flawlessly.

So if your tv last's 40 years you have another 22 years before that television goes out.

Also right now I'm typing this on my old windows xp desktop computer with A 24 year old Microscan crt computer monitor.

The monitor was brand new when I was 5 years old. I'm 29 now.

It was starting to make popping and arcing sounds but now it's working flawlessly again.

It just won't die.

I still also have several crt televisions that were thrown away that I salvaged from the dumpster that I use to watch old movies on.

I'll probably be dead before I make all them die.

So unless your parents get convinced to try a new tv then I'd say you're out of luck.

Just wait until you get your own place and then put an lcd tv in your house.

CRT Televisions have a lifespan of up to 40,000 hours and sometimes even up to 60,000 hours according to a google search.
The old tube tv's have a different aspect ratio too and the new shows are stretched out and won't display correctly on a tube tv.
