If your cars engine is sputtering while accelerating then the first thing I would check is the fuel injectors to be sure that the fuel injector nozzles are not clogged which would cause the engine to not get enough fuel when you press down on the gas pedal to accelerate.
Another cause could be low fuel pressure or clogged fuel filter or even faulty or fouled spark plugs.
Although unlikely the culprit an ignition coil could be causing weak spark and causing your engine to sputter and lose power while accelerating but the above things such as the fuel injectors or clogged fuel filter are most likely the culprit that is causing your vehicle to sputter when accelerating.
