What happens when you get into an auto accident without auto insurance will be determined on whether you're at fault for the accident or the other driver is at fault for the accident.

If you're at fault for the auto accident and you don't have auto insurance then you can face hefty fines, lose your drivers license, have your vehicle tags "Registration" pulled by the police and may even face jail time.

Your vehicle may also be towed and impounded depending on the State and the laws in that State.

If you're in an auto accident but are insured but the driver who hit you was uninsured then the reverse will happen and they'll be in trouble with the law and then you'd have to sue the other driver in court to pay for any injuries or damages to your vehicle.

Your insurance may also cover your damages to your vehicle from another uninsured persons vehicle if you have uninsured motorists coverage so check with your insurance company to see what they cover.

If they don't cover uninsured motorists then you'll likely have to just go to court and sue the other driver assuming you exchanged the information.
