In my opinion it's not worth it to break the transmission down to get clean aluminum unless your yard is paying a good price per pound for the aluminum such as 60 cents per pound or above.
It takes awhile to break a transmission down if it's your first transmission.
Personally I would just sell the transmission as is at aluminum breakage and spend the time doing more profitable things instead.
