How close can you put a wood stove to the wall?

I'm installing a new wood stove in my home for this winter and I'm wondering how far away from the wall should the wood stove be?

It should say in the instructions included with the new wood stove but a wood stove even with a heat shield should be at minimum of 36 inches away from any wall that is combustible.

If you want to place the wood stove closer to the wall then you need another heat shield mounted off the floor and away from the wall with spacers to reduce the clearance to 12 inches.
