If your hard drive is making grinding noises then be prepared for a hard drive failure.

The hard drive making grinding noises could be caused by the disk hitting the arm that sweeps across the hard disk or it could be the hard drives bearings starting to fail.

Either way a hard drive making grinding noises is not a good sign so back up your data now and get the hard drive replaced soon with another one.
