How hot is too hot for cats?

How hot can a cat stand in temperatures before overheating and dying?

I have a cat that I have to leave alone while I go to the office to work and It gets really hot out where I live and I try to leave the AC on for the cat but my electric bill gets to $400.00 per month with the ac constantly running?

Would it be safe for me to turn the ac off and just leave ceiling fans on in the house for the cat until I get home?

Most cats will do just fine in temperatures of up to 90 F and cats tend to like it very warm.

The ceiling fan should be enough to keep the cat cool enough and close any curtains or blinds to prevent the sun from warming the house any further.

Be sure to keep plenty of water out for your cat too and the cat should be fine.

Although I would at least set the thermostat on the air conditioner to 85 F so that the house can cool back down to at least 85 F and another bonus would be it wouldn't be as hot to you either when you do come home yourself.

An air conditioner has to work harder to bring the temperature back down after it's been off for awhile.
