High white blood cell counts can mean a lot of different things.

One of the most common reasons for someone having a high white cell count is that the body is fighting an infection.

Even a mild infection, one you may not realize your body is fighting, could make the white cell count go up 1 point. Other common reasons are allergies, stress, and medications. The thyroid levels that the doctor called you about can also effect the white cell count.

Yes, leukemias can make the number go up, but it is much more likely that the elevation is caused by something else. A high white cell count is actually not uncommon; try not to worry about it until the doctor gives you reason to.
