Yes prisoners who have a release date and are not serving a life sentence will be given the release date when they first arrive to prison and go through the RDU or research and diagnostic unit.
It could be called something else depending on the prison the inmate is sent too.
If a person is serving life but has a chance at parole after say 25 years then they'll be told the date that they will come up for parole and should be given a possible release date.
