A hard inquiry removes at most 5 points from a persons credit score.

So whenever you apply for a loan or credit card account you can expect your credit score to drop by at least 5 points but sometimes your credit score will only drop 2 points.

The hard inquiry will only affect your credit score for up to a year but it can take 2 years for the hard inquiry to drop off your credit report but sometimes I've had a hard inquiry drop off my credit report within 2 months.
