Why is it cold in April

It's April 1st 2017 and it's only 40F today.

Tonight is supposed to be 20F.

Why isn't it warm now that it's spring?

Just because it's spring. It doesn't mean that it's gonna be warm.

It doesn't usually stay warm until around May.

It's just the way the weather is. Don't count on it being warm just because of it being spring on the Calendar.
