When you get a speeding ticket your insurance rates will usually go up by 10 percent of what you're currently paying for auto insurance.

For example if you currently have a clean driving record and are paying $1,310.00 per year on auto insurance which is the average for someone to pay for auto insurance and you get a speeding ticket which will put one point on your driving record your auto insurance cost would increase by $611.00 per year.

A good thing though is that your auto insurance rates should not increase right away when you get a speeding ticket since auto insurance companies don't check your driving record every month.

Auto insurance companies only check your driving record when your insurance contract with them comes up for renewal or when you first purchase the auto insurance for your vehicle so it could be a year or more before you see an auto insurance rate increase from the speeding ticket.
