Driving with expired tags will usually not land you in jail but you can get a fine of around $75.00 to $100.00 or even more and can pay even higher costs in court.

If you don't have a drivers license and are caught with expired tags and no insurance then likely you'll be arrested and your vehicle will be towed.

You'll be going to jail for the no drivers license though and not for the expired tags.

If you have expired tags and do have insurance and a drivers license then most likely you'll just get a ticket and be sent on your way and told to park the vehicle until you get your tags renewed.

It can depend on the cops mood. If you're nasty to the cop then they'll likely be nasty back to you and cause you more trouble.

Be nice to the police officer who's only doing their job and they might cut you a break.

I once forgot to renew my vehicle registration and was pulled over a few years ago with expired tags but I did have insurance and a drivers license and I was polite to the cop and he was polite to me.

I told him that I had other things on my mind at the time and I forgot to renew the tags and would renew the tags the same day and he sent me on my way and didn't even give me a ticket.

I went and renewed the tag like I told him I would and never had anymore problems.

Now that doesn't mean that will happen to you or anyone else but it can and being polite to the officer will help you a lot better than being nasty and rude to them.
