When you have a clogged transmission filter a high pitched whining noise will usually be heard which is an indicator that your transmission fluid filter is clogged.

Transmission filters that are clogged can cause shifting problems because it doesn't allow the fluid to get through to the transmission which could damage the transmission overtime.

It's recommended that you get your transmission fluid and transmission filter changed every 30,000 miles or every 2 years.
