As preventative maintenance you should replace your battery at least every 4 years.

Any longer than 4 years then you risk being stranded due to a faulty car battery and might need to get the battery jumped.

I've always stuck to replacing my cars battery every 4 years and I've never had a battery die on me in my car.

The service life of a typical car battery is 2-3 years. I can say that the original battery of a new car can be used for more than 3 years. It life depends greatly upon several factors like temperature conditions of use, quality of battery, abuse. Recently I replaced my FORD ESCORT 2003 Battery(I found it with good price here), it was five years old.
