A certain part of your student loans can be used to pay for rent if you have to live off campus for some reason.
Do keep in mind though that in some cases it may be cheaper to live on campus and some colleges will require you to live on campus for at least the 1st year of your college.
I would only recommend living off campus if absolutely needed.
