I'm thinking of installing a wood stove this spring and want to get some firewood prepared for next winter.

How long does firewood take to season and dry out enough to burn properly in a wood stove?

It depends on the species of wood.

6 month to 9 months is normal before burning. If you start cutting and splitting wood in January and start the wood stove up by November that gives 10 months of drying time for the wood which should be plenty.

I can't remember exactly what species of wood it is but there is a species of wood that needs up to 2 years to fully dry out before it'll burn good.

I'll see if I can find it on the internet. Maybe somebody here knows what wood I'm talking about?
