Emotional detachment disorder can actually mean a few different things.

When someone has Emotional Detachment disorder they have an inability to connect with other people at emotional levels.

The second meaning of emotional detachment disorder is that it's a type of mental assertiveness, which allows a person to maintain their boundaries and also psychic integrity when the person is faced with emotional demands from another person or groups of other people.

Emotional detachment is a psychological condition in which a person is not able to fully engage with their feelings or the feelings of others.

It can be ongoing, as it is in people with attachment disorders, or it can be a temporary response to an extreme situation.

Psychotherapy (talk therapy) may be beneficial for people experiencing emotional detachment.

This might include cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), which involves identifying and examining maladaptive thoughts and behaviors and transforming them into healthier processes and strategies.
