We have an ice storm coming in by tomorrow.

What are some things we should do to prepare for an ice storm and a possible power outage?

Get a generator if you can. A generator will come in handy to power your refrigerator, computer and even a space heater in the event of a power outage.

A forced air furnace won't operate without electricity. One good way someone I know rigged his furnace up was to run an separate wire for the power to the furnace that can be plugged into the generator and then the breaker to the furnace can be cut off to prevent back feed into the power lines.

If you don't already a wood stove is a great thing to have in the event of a power outage and can provide heat.

If you have a wood stove make sure you have plenty of dried split wood to fuel the stove through the outage.

Stock up on food as you might not be able to get out in the storm and the stores may be out of food.

A portable kerosene or propane heater is also a good thing to have in the event natural gas get's disrupted.
