How to compare the speed of 2 different shared hosting plans?

Is there a way that I can compare the speed of 2 different shared web hosting plans?

Web hosts usually have speed tests for their servers.

But the only true way you'll know of the speed between the hosting plans is by signing up for 2 different hosting plans with the web hosting company and putting websites on each plan and see how fast those websites load on the servers.

Usually though there's no difference in the website speed between shared hosting plans and you'll only notice a speed difference between shared hosting and a VPS server.
