If the bad check that is written is under $500.00 then the person who wrote the bad check will be charged with a misdemeanor.

But if the check is over $500.00 and the person writes the bad check knowingly then it becomes a felony which can land you in prison.

Now if you wrote the check by accident and can prove in court that the check was written by accident then you won't automatically get into trouble if you can pay back the money on the written check.

If a person knowingly writes more than 3 checks that are bad within a 5 day period then those written checks can get you a felony charge if you're proven guilty in a court of law.

Be sure you have money in the bank before you write out any checks to avoid any trouble.
