If you're an undergraduate student you will have to wait for 20 years for the student loan to be forgiven.

If you're a graduate student then you have to wait 25 years before you're eligible for the student loan to be forgiven.

To have the student loan forgiven you'll have to get in contact with a student loan forgiveness program that can help you get your student loan forgiven.

The student loan isn't automatically forgiven so you have to signup for a student loan forgiveness program but you have to wait from 20 to 25 years before doing so.

You do however have to be making payments on the loan for the student loan to be forgiven in the 20 or 25 years.

If you haven't paid any money on the student loan then it won't get forgiven.
